Today’s clinic went really well. We did it at the Amoawi clinic. I think we were all rather exhausted from
yesterday so the energy wasn’t there and a few people were not feeling the
best. But the clinic was very well
organized and ready to go when we arrived.
The teachings moved flawlessly and the assessments went very
smoothly.
I enjoyed this clinic because we weren’t able to do it last
year. It was a completely new
experience. We saw over 120 adults and
over 300 kids. The assessments showed
several adults who had very high, and in some cases dangerously high blood
pressure. We were able to refer these
individuals to the doctor so that they could get the treatment that they
needed. In one case, we sent a lady
straight to the hospital because her blood pressure was so high.
After the clinic, food was brought to us while all these
children were watching us eat. It felt
wrong. Terrible even. We gave them our food. Its not right that we eat while they are
starving. There were probably 50 kids
sharing 3-4 meals of rice and chicken.
Is that their breakfast, lunch, and dinner today? I’d like to think they
go home to a meal but I can’t be too certain.
Being here really makes you think upon your life. It makes you think of all the good things and
all the ways that you are spoiled. You
think about what is really important to you.
It makes you question a good deal of what you have grown up with, your
beliefs, and your ideals. Some of the
people here have almost nothing-I every sense of that phrase. Yet they give and give because they know it’s
the right thing to do. They do it
because that is the type of people they are.
The give and ask for nothing in return.
