This was the first day we got to sleep in. Of course, I didn’t. I am not sure why but no matter what time we
have to wake up my body is up at least 1o minutes before the alarm. Its nice but annoying. I got up and was able to just take my time
which was nice. I had a FaceTime call
and then went to breakfast.
It has been a running joke at breakfast that I get Milo—it
is a hot chocolate type of energy drink they provide here. Well I am always asking for it and the lady
has made it a custom of waiting for me at the door with my milo packet. Well they ran out yesterday so I was hoping
for some today. When they still didn’t
have Milo I became all dramatic and was giving them a hard time. We were all laughing about it when the girl
came back with a Milo substitute. Sure,
it expired two years ago but it was still pretty good. They are good souls here despite my
harassment.
We headed out to Bosumtwi Crater Lake. I love it here. We were really in need of some
relaxation. The trail leading up to this
resort is the most half baked thing you have ever seen. It doesn’t even look like a legitimate trail. It is barely…I mean barely wide enough for
our bus and we could’ve easily driven into another ditch..
The lake was wonderful and warm. Besides the oil muck that floated on the
surface and turned our skin colors, it was beautiful. It felt really good to swim and get some
exercise and get the heart pumping. They
brought us these log boat type things.
It is basically a log cut into a half piece with curved edges; the
locals use them as fishing boats. We use
them as floating devices and for Ghanaian surfing, which entails channeling
your inner yoga master and standing on the board while trying to balance. It is rather hard but really fun.
The lake was very enjoyable and quite peaceful. In the later afternoon the clouds started to
role in and we had to hurry and pack up.
As we were leaving the heavens opened and dumped on us. We seriously have been blessed with amazing
weather this whole trip. It was a really
good to allowing us to recuperate.
We had dinner prepared by one of Lisa’s good friends (the
name escapes me..) and she shared with us her feelings about Charity Beyond Borders
and all the work that us students do for her people. She was so grateful to us for everything that
we do and emphasized that even the littlest of things that we do helps. It really shows that what we are doing does
make a difference.
