We were up really early today to head to Accra. Early, as in 3 am. The bus was comfy but Richard insisted on
playing this chantey religion music that was killing everyone…or maybe we were
all just tired at 3 am and it wasn’t half bad? I am not sure. We arrived in Accra around nine. We left early so we could be here in time to
open the cargo container that we had shipped back in April. When we arrived they were not ready for us so
Lisa opened up her containers and made us gigantic pancakes with Nutella,
syrup, and powdered sugar. It is
incredible how tasty these things were.
Food from home was much needed and appreciated.
We hung out around the Osda house for a few hours and it turned
out that the container will not be opened until tomorrow. So we loaded up the bus and headed into the
markets. We strolled the streets,
bargained with street venders, bought some way cool stuff and visited Koala, a
very American type grocery store. We
purchased meat and goods for further meals here.
As some of you may know, I am headed to Detroit the same day
we return home for Ghana for my internship with Chrysler. I am very excited about this and I am
determined to learn to cook for myself.
(Yes, it is about time I do this!)
So I helped Lisa (sort of) prepare some food. I think I should make it my goal to learn a
few things. Like today, I successfully
used a can opener!! Whoop!
Accra is a different place from where we have been
staying. We saw several range rovers
driving down the road that cost anywhere from $50-100K while there are children
right outside their doors starving in the streets. It is insane to me that that disparity can
exist. I wouldn’t feel right rolling up
in a range rover while kids are starving.
How is the justifiable? It seem so wrong.
